Before I became pregnant I knew all the traditional symptoms I might suffer, like nausea and morning sickness. Luckily I skipped that part of pregnancy but I did suffer from other ailments I was not expecting like congestion and heartburn. Of course, these were easily curable with a quick drugstore run. Here are my top 5 drugstore buys:
Prenatal Vitamins
As soon as you find out your pregnant pick these bad boys up. Make sure you buy ones with 800 mcg of folic acid. I also prefer brands with DHA. NatureMade’s prenatal vitamin is a good option as it covers both and can be found at your local store.
Nasal Strips
Never have I ever used these in my life prior to pregnancy, but boy am I glad I got them. Turns out 20-40% of pregnant women suffer from congestion, known as Rhinitis of Pregnancy. To be honest it just feels like allergies, but its persistent and annoying. The only thing that helped me were Breath Right strips, which I scooped up from my local Duane Reade.
Tums
I know I’m not the only pregnant lady whos having a love affair with tums. I keep these on my nightstand since my heartburn flares up at night and it immediately pacifies the burn.
Aveeno Sheer Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30
Like anything else pregnancy may cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun, that’s why a daily moisturizer with SPF is key (but let’s be honest you should probably be using this pregnant or not). I prefer Aveeno’s sheer daily moisturizer because it gives you a natural highlight that some have mistaken for my pregnancy glow.
Palmers Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Cream
Unfortunately, stretch marks are mostly genetic, so there’s no need to buy the expensive creams. As your belly grows, however, it may become dry and itchy so even if stretch marks are inevitable this lotion can be incredibly soothing.
